NEW SINGLE OUT NOW!

8th September 2022 Queen Elizabeth II died. A year after we are releasing our anti-tribute to the royal families and their fortunes around the world. Elizabeth was born into immense status, coronated to lift the spirit of an old colonial superpower, a mere pawn in the game in the ruins of royal faith. "When the Queen died rich the working class cried," the lyrics remark in its punchline to the last refrain.

a sentiment of resignation, fate and melancholy.
With “Fado”, Singersongwriter Louis Puggaard-Müller is taking the songs
from “Saudade” back to their roots. Showcased by a fully live recorded
album, consisting of the original versions. In essence, this new album can
be considered the A-side to Saudade, as “Fado” is capturing the raw &
naked emotions of the songs in their purest form. Most of the songs on
this album were written on a week-long trip to Lisbon where Louis,
stocked up with a guitar and a notebook was tracing down his romantic
self-inflicted wounds. When presented like this, we are invited to follow
the longful lyrics as they undisturbed dance across the chords of a
troubadour’s guitar.

With ‘Saudade’, Subterranean Street Society has created an anthem that praises the tradition of folk music. The songs, written by Puggaard-Müller, can in essence be described as Dylan-esque. By incorporating horns, strings, choirs, samples, and soundscapes into their palette they are exploring new sonic territory. Being inspired by the recent work of Nick Cave, Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens and Fink, the band has challenged themselves to take a more symphonic direction.

The seven songs that make up the album were written by Puggaard-müller in a turbulent period of his love life. While breaking up with his long-time dutch lover, he found himself moving from couch to couch through the city of Amsterdam. Should he stay or should he go back home to Denmark? The band was now his main love and reason to stay, but he also met a new girl in Amsterdam. Both this girl and the old love, are both well-known singer-songwriters, living on different ends of the city. This created a vacuum that made it difficult to start anew, and so a year into the new love affair, his inability to move on and commit to a new relationship, resulted in another heartbreak that sparked these songs into existence.

‘Twelve Steps’ is a concept album about Alcoholism, written by singer and songwriter Louis Puggaard-Müller. He experienced his dad’s battle first hand during his late teens and early twenties when he saw his father slowly slip away into a severe alcohol addiction. As he moved to The Netherlands his dad was in rehab and in order to process, Louis decided to read the famous AA ‘twelve steps’ for himself. It led him to create an artistic adaptation of the steps mentioned in the book: For each step a song.

At first, it was a way of dealing with all the anger and frustrations of being powerless towards his dad and his egocentric decisions. But later it became a meditation on how it is to be a relative to the disease that is alcoholism

In collaboration with Ivo Schot and Ryan Wilson, the songs turned into a concept album, composed of pieces of music ranging from head bobbing grunge songs, to elaborate alternative arrangements and intimate folk classics.

This album is inspired, written and dedicated to my father and friend who made it to the sober side, full of scars, wisdom, memory loss and the most wonderful and witty humor still intact.
